Providing Sanctuary to Horses Rescued From The Slaughter Pipeline

RETURNING HORSES TO THEIR UNBRIDLED NATURE

We are a sanctuary where horses can find solace, rehabilitation, and the chance to flourish again, liberated from the burdens of the past.

Help Save a Horse

Over 150,000 horses face a grim fate each year as they are sent to slaughter. These magnificent creatures, including pregnant mares, are purchased by "kill pen" owners at auctions and then sent to slaughter, where they are paid in weight per pound. The prevalence of the kill pen/slaughter business is disheartening. The callous attitude exhibited by the horse industry towards these beings is appalling.

At our foundation, we believe in the inherent value of every horse.
Our mission is to rescue horses from the slaughter pipeline and provide a sanctuary where they can live out their days surrounded by the love, dignity, and care they deserve. The horses typically arrive in wretched health, as shown above.

Our commitment extends beyond our sanctuary; we also help other vetted sanctuaries in their efforts of rescuing and caring for horses in need.

We are a 501c-3 nonprofit. All donations are tax-deductible.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Rescue horses usually arrive having lacked the regular care needed for good health, and all too often also with severe infections and injuries from the harsh conditions and mistreatment they endure while in kill pens.

Your vital support covers essential expenses such as their purchase, transport fees, comprehensive medical care, including dental treatments, chiropractic sessions, and vaccinations, hoof-trimming, and daily feeding.

MEET JEFFREY

First month of arrival

12 months later

Jeffrey, a nine-year-old American Quarter Horse, Bay Gelding was 72 hours away from slaughter when we rescued him. While in the “care” of the kill pen, he suffered a laceration that went to the muscle on his forehead. It, along with his whole body, was full of infection. He required aggressive antibiotics for over a month and chiropractic care to address the compression in his spine affecting his functional movement from the initial injury.

Because of You, We Can

Hi, I’m Holly Krepps

In 2012, I embarked on a journey of rescuing horses, initially starting with a simple intention. My husband and I had purchased a new homestead in the late summer of 2009, and I acquired a horse to enjoy our newfound space.

Being herd creatures, horses naturally seek constant companionship, and my horse was no exception. Although endearing, his persistent attempts to follow me into the house made it clear that I had important decisions to make.

Recognizing the need for a companion, I acquired another horse, which seemed only fitting to provide a home for one in need. Unbeknownst to me then, this decision would unveil the distressing reality faced by our equine companions—the looming threat of the slaughter pipeline.

Since becoming aware of the callous and brutal aspects of the horse industry, I have wholeheartedly dedicated myself to making a difference. Through my commitment, The Rose Angel Foundation has emerged, acting as a catalyst for more frequent acts of compassion and saying "yes" to helping horses in need.
